THE SILENCE OF A GIANT

Whale-born presence, translated into comfort and dignity.
Inspired by the sperm whale’s calm power, Lamalera AS1 turns the idea of the “largest” into serenity bold proportions, smooth flow, and a quiet confidence on the road.

EXTERIOR DESIGN

OCEAN-FORMED SURFACES

Biomimicry lines that feel alive, not aggressive.
The body is shaped by continuous curves and softened edges, echoing a whale’s hydrodynamic mass stylish, futuristic, and elegantly restrained.

The Lamalera AS1 exterior is inspired by the whale the largest marine mammal and an apex presence within the ocean ecosystem. I translated this into road transportation: a bus is the largest passenger vehicle on the road, so it should express calm power big, stable, and dignified rather than aggressive.

The name Lamalera comes from the traditional fishing culture of Lamalera in Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (Indonesia). In their annual traditional rituals (often referred to locally as Dionbata), the community upholds ethical limits such as avoiding certain catches like large males or pregnant females. This value becomes the design foundation: respect life, preserve balance, and move with disciplined restraint.

ARCHITECTURE TWO-LAYER COMFORT

Passenger calm above, power below.
A split upper–lower layout separates the cabin from the mechanical zone, helping reduce noise and vibration so the journey feels smoother and more refined.

LAMALERA AS1 BUS CONCEPT DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

A Breakthrough Form: Design Born from the Soul

Lamalera AS1 represents a new kind of breakthrough in future bus design something once unexpected. To me, design is not only visual art; it comes from spirit, motivation, and belief that inspiration is a gift made real through discipline, exploration, and courage.

Whale-Inspired Biomimicry Language

The visual identity is largely shaped by whale-like character, such as:

Sliding Door System: Unique and Functional Access

A distinctive rear-sliding door mechanism improves boarding convenience while adding a clean, high-tech functional impression.

Utility: Expanded Luggage Capacity
Lighting Identity: Modern and Premium

The Meaning of “Lamalera” and Local Wisdom

“AS” represents Arman Sidik, the designer; “1” marks his first fully realized vehicle concept. The name celebrates a personal starting point and the intent to establish a clear, distinctive design language

Luggage space is widened along the sides to support long-distance operations, while keeping the body lines clean and proportional.

LED lighting enhances both the premium feel and practical visibility, with a clean signature lighting approach that integrates into the overall design language.

As a whole, the Lamalera AS1 concept carries the dignity of a giant calm, composed, and unmistakably present on the road. Its design language flows as one continuous form, where the upper cabin and lower technical base work together to create a refined silhouette. Smooth, whale-inspired surfaces catch and soften light, while subtle details add character without noise. Lamalera AS1 is not only a bus concept, but a statement about how nature’s restraint and local wisdom can be translated into a future-forward mobility experience.

CALM POWER, QUIET COMFORT, AND OCEAN-FORMED SURFACES

Fin-inspired mirror/camera housings that feel compact, futuristic, and integrated

Left and right sides use camera-based visibility displayed on an in-cabin monitor, helping the driver read surrounding conditions more easily especially in tight or crowded environments.
